Who would have thought Minot, North Dakota would even have 17 things to do? #travellikealocal
I have to start with this one, because this is one of the biggest events of the year. We moved to Minot during State Fair week 2017, and it was really fun to see what it was all about. We always get the jalapeno cheese curds from the stand right outside of the concert stands. We saw Kip Moore and Weezer in concert the last 2 years we went.
2. Oak Park
Oak Park has a really nice walking trail and we love to grab a coffee and take our dog on a walk there. They also have volleyball courts, a splash pad, and lots of equipment for kids to play on. They also have Christmas light displays through the park in December, and a farmers’ market in the summer.
For the last few years the Roosevelt Park Zoo has hosted my favorite event of the year in Minot. Bacon and Brew at the Zoo is an event where all of the restaurants have to serve a bacon themed food and a beer. For $50 you can get all of the food and beer samples you want, and at the end of the night you vote for your favorite bacon food! Visit Minot in the summer time if you want to check out this event!
Go have a tasting or take a glass on their walking trail!
Glow in the Dark mini golf course in downtown Minot.
6. Escape Point
Downtown Minot's escape room, and a short walk to my #7.
7. The Spot
Also in downtown, The Spot, is a pool hall.
8. Food Truck Festival
Another fun event in Minot is the food truck festival, and it's been getting bigger every year. There are vendors with local goods, a kids play area with inflatables, food trucks, and a beer garden.
9. Woodland Trail
Just off the 83 bypass sits this perfect little walking trail. We talk our dog on walks here all the time and love to see all of the leaves change to yellow in the early fall.
10. Lake Audobon
Lake Audobon is about a 40 minute drive south of Minot. We first discovered it when looking for dispersed campsites and have gone camping here several times since we found it. It is best to go off holiday weekends unless you plan to get to the lake very early.
11. Sunflower Fields
North Dakota has sunflower field all over the place! The fields are in every direction from Minot, so they won't be hard to find in the late summer. Typically you'll see them in August, so if you're looking for a photo op in ND, make sure to make a stop.
12. Memory Fireworks
This past July we went to the Memory Fireworks show for the first time. It was really cool to see what the fireworks they had in stock looked like before you bought them. They give you a sheet with the order of the fireworks, and you can mark off which ones you like and want to go buy after the show ends. This typically happens a few days before July 4th. Get there early so you can get a spot.
13. The Market on 4th & The Foundry
If you are looking to shop local in Minot The Market on 4th and The Foundry are my favorites. Both of these stores have goods made by local makers. They also have crafting classes that you can sign up for through their Facebook pages.
Hockey games are one of the best things to do in Minot during the winter. Tickets, food, and beer are cheap, and the games are always really exciting. We love to sit in the first row along the ice, because you'll sometimes have fights right in front of you.
15. Berry Acres
Berry Acres is my favorite thing to do in Minot to do all of the quintessential fall things! You can pick out a pumpkin, go through the corn maze, take a hayride, and shop for other produce in their shop.
Roosevelt is another park we like to take a walk at, and the first time we did we discovered the Medal of Honor Memorial. There is also a public pool at the park which we've been to, and the water slide is actually pretty fun!
I mentioned Atypical in my Minot Top 5 post, but I just had to add it in here. Go grab a flight of beers at Atypical. If you like sours, they have the best. They also have other styles of beer, so if you're visiting Minot, this is a place you cannot miss.
If you live in Minot, or plan to travel here, I hope this post helped you find a little inspiration!
