Tips for Saving Money while Traveling
-
Tent camping, depending on the location of your trip you can sometimes find free dispersed camping sites
-
Bringing a reusable water bottle
-
Bringing a reusable coffee cup, many places offer discounts for using a reusable cup (and you’re saving the planet!)
-
Packing snacks from home, things are more expensive at convenience stores, and especially at the airport
-
Using the same hotel chain/airline to earn rewards points
-
See if the restaurants you plan to go to have special deals or happy hours on particular days, then plan your schedule accordingly
-
If using public transportation in a city, have a plan for each day’s itinerary so that you visit all of the places close to each other and avoid unnecessary trips
-
Not buying souvenirs! It’s so easy on vacation to overspend on location-branded items for memories, but often times this ends up being just clutter that accumulates. Sure, pick up one magnet or keychain if that’s your thing, but be realistic about what you’ll really use. I like to buy nice t-shirts, coffee/tea, and unique or handmade items from a local store

When flying, check-out airlines like Frontier and Spirit. They might not be the most luxurious plane rides, but for a short flight the savings can be worth it. If bags aren’t included, challenge yourself to fit everything into a carry on bag!
